In my first term in college, I enrolled in the most advanced French class (level 6) and earned an easy 'A'. French is almost a native language for most Tunisians: nationally, in addition to free French TV channels, French is taught from 1st grade, and is the primary language in education after elementary school. During his graduate degree in Paris, my dad became the best friend of French President Giscard d'Estaing's son. As a graduation gift, the President gave my dad a house in the heart of Paris. So I have been to Paris dozens of times, including during the 1998 world cup. I've also explored La Cote d'Azur in the south about a dozen of times, including during few Cannes festivals. Here is a picture of my kids' 2nd visit to Paris in 2008, who are now in middle school and high school, enrolled in Eugene's French immersion programs.
After graduating from a French high school in Tunisia in 1995, I taught beginning and advanced French to elementary school, high school, and college students in California from 2000 to 2004. I was also my university's French department's primary Substitute Teacher, Teacher Assistant, and Student Assistant. In Eugene, I was an online French Rater at Avant Assessment. Here is a picture of some of my French elementary school students, who surprised me at a multicultural public event on campus in 2004. More pictures can be found on my Facebook page: "Eugene French Tutoring".
Dictation (la dictée) is the most comprehensive drill to practice a language, as it tests your grammar and comprehension, in addition to spelling. French conjugation and French dictation are the most challenging among Romance languages. My mom forced me to do a dictée every day. That's why I was always the best speller in my French class. In my French private lessons, I often start with a grade-level classroom-topic-related dictée, then discuss its content to practice speaking, then use it to review and practice the current grammar and conjugation lessons learned at school.
(I'm happy to do our lessons on Skype or Google Hangouts, or Zoom
instead of in-person)
(I'm happy to drive to your home in Eugene or Springfield,
instead of a lesson at my home near Chavez school)
(French students must be within 1 grade level of each other, unless all the students are siblings)
(when siblings attend the same lesson)
(these groups meet for 1 hour between 9am & 2pm)
(these groups meet for 2 hours: 9-11am or 11am-1pm)
How is my French accent?
